Papers, 1855-1891 (scattered), include: Family Correspondence; Correspondence re: Mich. politics, 1855-1860 and slavery, 1857; Biographical Materials, 1856; an Agreement with Mill Point and Detroit and Western Railroad, 1857; an Act to incorporate Benton Harbor (Berrien County, Mich.) signed by John Strong, Pres. Senate, Edwin B. Winans, Gov. of Michigan, and H. C. Rockwell, Rep. 1st District, 1891; and Miscellaneous. Family Correspondence includes four Civil War letters to his "Dear Wife" from Mort (Mordecai) in Mo., March 1862; a note from Mort to "Dear Wife, Anna, Harry, Cora, and Lee, 1876; and a letter to Mordecai from Ananias Worden, 1888, asking Hopkins to write Worden's obituary. Also, there are Civil War letters, 1861, to Mordecai from friends H. Drake and T. Eastman; a partial letter, undated, from Worden about the draft agreement, 1863; and one letter to Mort from George H. Osgood about Civil War Rebels, undated.

Hopkins, from Millpoint, Ottawa County (Mich.) was a married Senator from the 23rd District Ottawa County (Mich.), 1855-1856. No further information is available on him. (Information from Michigan Biographies v. 1.) William H. Drake served in Company A, 3rd Michigan Infantry. He was discharged for disability at Washington, D.C., on Jan. 13, 1863 at age 28.
